Why Did You Decide to Become an Oral Surgeon?
Throughout his early years, Dr. Jacobs developed a strong love for science, biology, and medicine. He knew he wanted to help people as part of his career, and his father (who worked in big corporate businesses) encouraged him to try and be his own boss. He eventually realized that oral & maxillofacial surgery was the ideal intersection of these goals and interests, and he hasn’t looked back since. In fact, Dr. Jacobs has moved patient care forward through his volunteer involvement with Georgia’s First Baptist Dental Services and Give Kids a Smile in Missouri. He has even traveled internationally to Jamaica and Honduras, providing oral surgery care to local residents.
Where Did You Study Oral Surgery?
Dr. Jacobs completed both his undergraduate degree and his dental doctorate at the University of Michigan. He then took on an internship in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University Florida/Shands Jacksonville Hospital, followed by a 4-year Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the University of Tennessee Medical Center and a one-year Fellowship in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis, MO.
Today, he is proud to be Board-Certified through both the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology.
He is also a member of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, American Dental Association, and Georgia Dental Association.
Outside of the Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Jacobs is happily married with three young children at home. When he isn’t busy caring for patients, you can typically find him enjoying quality time with his family, coaching his kids’ sports teams, golfing, playing tennis and basketball, fishing, hiking, or doing pretty much anything else outdoors. He also enjoys keeping up with athletics at the University of Michigan.
Here’s a really interesting fact about Dr. Jacobs: he was once a Guinness Book of World Record Holder! He played in the longest baseball game at the time, which was 74 hours long.
